Bet on NFL Odds: Indianapolis Colts vs. New England Patriots
by Bodog Sportsbook | Nov 2 2007
It’s become the greatest football rivalry of the decade, featuring some of the most compelling matchups in the NFL.
It’s Brady vs. Manning.
It’s Belichick vs. Dungy.
It’s Pats vs. Colts.
This Sunday, the latest installment of this grudge match takes place as the Colts welcome the Patriots into the RCA Dome for the first time since dispatching New England 38-34 in last year’s AFC Championship.
In a wild turn of events, oddsmakers and the betting public sat back and watched this week as line movements went crazy. What opened as “New England -4.5” shifted to “New England -6.5” in a matter of hours. Nobody can be too sure what to make of the defending Super Bowl champions as fairly large dogs at home – especially given all the history involved in this affair.
Here’s a quick rundown of the most recent New England-Indianapolis matchups:
•
2007- AFC Championship – IND 38, NE 34 (IND -3.5, covers)
•
2006- Regular Season – IND 27, NE 20 (IND +3, covers)
•
2005- Regular Season – IND 40, NE 21 (IND -4.5, covers)
•
2005- AFC Playoffs – NE 20, IND 3 (Pick, NE covers)
The fact that Indianapolis has won three of the last four meetings makes its home dog status even more compelling. But history can only tell us so much – especially when the Patriots are busy writing some of their own this season.
New England is assaulting the record books with a point-scoring display we haven’t seen since Peyton Manning threw an NFL-record 49 touchdown passes in 2004. Back then, the Pats were built around a strong defense and an efficient, analytical offense that knew how to pace itself. The Colts were wild stallions, running up point totals at will to compensate for a mediocre defense.
My, what a difference three years makes.
The philosophical shifts in both teams have been dramatic. The Patriots are scoring at a 41.4 points-per-game clip with 43 touchdowns in eight games. The Colts are allowing the second-fewest points in the NFL (14.6, behind Pittsburgh’s 13) and have only conceded five touchdowns on the ground, shoring up what was once a porous run defense.
So while the QBs, coaches and team names remain the same, the latest installment of the Colts-Pats rivalry promises to be like nothing we’ve seen before. Interested in getting in on the action? Check out the Bodog Sportsbook for all the latest betting information about the
