Saturday:
Boston at Toronto The Red Sox are 13-4 in their last 17 games against winning teams. They swept their three-game set with the Jays at Fenway Park by a combined score of 15-5. The Jays have lost nine in a row to fall to 27-23 (2.00 units).
Saturday:
Florida at N.Y. MetsMarlins starter Josh Johnson says he's picked up a small blister on the middle finger of his right hand. It didn't prevent Johnson from making a quality start in Sunday's 5-4 victory over Tampa Bay (-106).
Saturday:
N.Y. Yankees at ClevelandCleveland's Progressive Field (formerly Jacobs Field and still commonly referred to as "The Jake") has a 0.760 park factor for home runs, more than half that of the new Yankee Stadium at 1.565.
Saturday:
Chicago White Sox at Kansas CityThe Royals are 5-1 in their last six home games against a lefty starter. Mark Buehrle (2.59 ERA, 7-2 team record, plus-4.51 units) takes the mound Saturday for the Pale Hose.
Saturday:
St. Louis at San FranciscoThe over is 5-2 when the wind blows out to center at AT&T Park, and 1-1 when it blows out to left. Southwest winds are expected for Saturday at 5-10 mph, which would be out to left field.
Sunday:
Detroit at BaltimoreJason Berken is one of four rookie starters Baltimore has used this season. Brad Bergesen, Alfredo Simon and Koji Uehara (actually a veteran from Japan) are the others. Berken won his major league debut 7-2 against the Jays on Tuesday as a slight +102 home dog.
Sunday:
Cincinnati at MilwaukeeThe Brewers are 18-6 in their last 24 games as a home favorite. That should be the case again when Yovani Gallardo (3.32 ERA, 1.07 WHIP) gets the nods against Micah Owings (4.78 ERA, 1.53 WHIP).
Sunday:
Oakland at TexasThe under is 8-3 in the last 11 meetings between these two clubs. Oakland is last in the majors with a .671 team OPS. Texas is behind only the Yankees at .814 OPS, yet the under is 9-4-1 for the Rangers in their last 13 at the Ballpark in Arlington.
Sunday:
Seattle at L.A. AngelsThe Mariners are ranked No. 14 out of 30 MLB teams in defensive efficiency at .693. This is a metric devised by the folks at Baseball Prospectus that is roughly equivalent to 1-BABIP (Batting Average on Balls in Play). The under is 25-22-1 for the M’s this year.
Sunday:
L.A. Dodgers at Chicago CubsIn 2006 - his last relatively healthy season in the majors - Eric Milton drove the over to a 15-8-3 record in 26 starts for the Cincinnati Reds. He’s 1-1 for the Dodgers this year, splitting the pair against the total.
