National League Races Too Close to CallWith only seven games remaining in the MLB regular season, the New York Mets find themselves in an eerily similar position to last year. There’s no monumental collapse with this year’s Mets, but they’re in a dogfight for a playoff berth with the Brewers, Phillies and Marlins in the last week of the season.
The Mets head into the final week down a game and a half to the Phillies and
clinging to a game-and-a-half lead on the Milwaukee Brewers for the N.L. wild card.

this last week because Milwaukee won’t.
It’s not a favorable schedule for the Mets either. The Mets will be finishing the season with a home stand. Their next seven games include four against the Cubs and three against the Marlins. Conversely, the Brewers' final six games include three against the lowly Pirates and three against the Cubs.
The Dodgers have a relatively comfortable 2.5-game lead
on the D'Backs in the
N.L. West. The Phillies need to keep
winning to keep both the Mets and Brewers at bay. And the Marlins, at five games back in the wild-card race, have an outside shot if they win out and get some help.

Ironically enough, for some teams this happens to be the best opportunity to secure their place in the postseason. run the table and overtake the Mets or the Phillies.
