You’ve got all the angles covered for this weekend’s football games. Or have you? Here are 10 stats that you might find surprising, curious or just plain odd.
San Diego at Buffalo: The over is 6-0 in Buffalo’s last six home games. The Bills are known for their defense, and Ralph Wilson Stadium is known as a hell of a place to win a football game. But Buffalo defenders are starting to fall like flies again, just as they did last year.
N.Y. Jets at Oakland: The Raiders have the strongest, No. 1-ranked special teams in the NFL. This was one of their weakest areas over the past three seasons, and the advanced stat gurus at Football Outsiders are trying to figure out why the punt coverage has suddenly become so good.
Texas El Paso at Tulsa: Tulsa QB David Johnson leads the FBS with 26 TD throws. This is his first year as a starter, but the 22-year-old senior is very familiar with Gus Malzahn’s no-huddle offense and has actually been an improvement over Paul Smith. Tulsa is 6-0 SU and 4-1 ATS as a result.
Dallas at St. Louis: The Cowboys lead the NFL with two Roy Williamses. The wide receiver came over from Detroit in a deadline trade; the safety is expected to make this start after missing a month with a broken forearm. The Cowboys need both Williamses after dropping two of their last three (0-3 ATS).
Oregon State at Washington: The Huskies are No. 5 in the nation in third-down conversion at 53.16 percent. They’re incredibly bad at defense, which is why they’re 0-5 SU and 1-4 ATS, but they keep the chains moving enough to get the over to a 4-1 mark.

Baltimore at Miami: Dolphins QB Chad Pennington has a 98.8 passer rating. That’s good for sixth in the NFL, just behind Kurt Warner (102.8), although Warner has 12 TD throws to Pennington’s five. Being a light-armed management-style QB doesn’t get you any respect.
San Jose State at New Mexico State: SJS leads the nation in drawing penalties. The Aztecs have been handed 80.3 yards in free real estate per game this year. They’re still only 1-5 SU and 2-3 ATS, though. It could get worse if the flags don’t keep flying.
San Francisco at N.Y. Giants: The Giants have yet to fumble away the ball this year. It’s no surprise that the running game has been the backbone of the Giants offense, but they had butterfingers last year with 14 lost fumbles and a minus-9 takeaway-giveaway ratio.
Missouri at Texas: The under is 9-4 in the Longhorns’ last 13 games after scoring over 40 points. Every other trend points to the over for Texas, one of the most prolific offenses in the FBS and the new No. 1 team in the rankings.
New Orleans at Carolina: Martin Gramatica is the only current NFL player from Argentina. He’s also on injured reserve after struggling with longer kicks this year (3-for-7 from beyond 40 yards). Rookie and ex-Wisconsin Badger Taylor Mehlhaff is his replacement.
