Stat Check

by Bodog Sportsbook | Apr 17 2009

The weekend is just about upon us, which means the 2009 NBA playoffs will be taking over the households of handicappers across North America and beyond. The NHL postseason will continue to get a lot of betting attention, and we've already got a season's worth of intrigue out of the 2009 MLB campaign. Whatever your betting fancy, we're on it like white on rice as we present out latest list of 10 stats and factoids.

NBA

Chicago at Boston: Kevin Garnett only played 45 percent of the season for the Boston Celtics, measured in minutes. Paul Pierce led the team at 76 percent, but his plus-5.2 Roland Rating is almost half that of Garnett's (plus-10.1). The Big Ticket might miss the entire playoffs with his strained knee.

Detroit at Cleveland: The Pistons run the slowest offense in the league at 89.1 possessions per game. Cleveland isn't far behind at 91.2 possessions. The under is 29-6 in their last 35 encounters.

Dallas at San Antonio: The Mavericks are 11-2 ATS in their last 13 playoff contests as the underdogs. But San Antonio is also 18-4-2 ATS as the favorite in the last 24 playoff games. The Spurs were small faves at the open; check Bodog Sports for the latest odds.

Utah at L.A. Lakers: Jazz coach Jerry Sloan called his team "a dent in the road" on L.A.'s path toward the championship. Sloan told the Salt Lake Tribune that Utah's chances of advancing to the second round were "pretty bleak." Oddsmakers have the Jazz at 65-1 to win the title compared to 3-2 for Los Angeles.

NHL

N.Y. Rangers at Washington: Rangers coach John Tortorella says captain Chris Drury should be back for Game 2 on Saturday after missing the series opener with an undisclosed injury. Drury has won both the Little League championship (1989) and the Stanley Cup (2001).

Montreal at Boston: The Habs and Bruins each had an 82.4-percent success rate on the penalty kill during the regular season. Montreal had 10 shorthanded goals to Boston's eight, but in 64 more opportunities.

Anaheim at San Jose: Going into the playoffs, the under was on a 13-3-2 roll in the last 18 matchups between these two clubs. It's the first all-California NHL playoff matchup since the Kings dumped the now-defunct Oakland Seals in seven games back in 1969.

MLB

Baltimore at Boston (Friday): Orioles starter Jeremy Guthrie has already cracked the Top 5 in the pitcher's money standings with a quick 2.72 units of profit in two starts, over the Yankees as a +172 puppy and the Rays as a -118 favorite. Brad Penny has one start and 1.01 units under his belt for Boston after a 5-4 road win against the Angels.

Cleveland at N.Y. Yankees (Saturday): The new Yankee Stadium cost $1.5 billion to build, making it the second most expensive stadium in the world behind London’s new Wembley Stadium ($1.57 billion). The Yankees lost the home opener 10-2 to Cleveland (+188) on Thursday.

St. Louis at Chicago Cubs (Sunday): Going into Friday’s matchup, the over was 19-7-2 in Chicago’s last 28 games versus a club with a winning percentage above .600. The Cardinals were 8-3 (.727) to lead the National League Central, two games up on the 5-4 Cubs.
