Many see him as tight-lipped and lacking emotion, but the reality is that Bill Belichick doesn’t need to be flamboyant or loud because his silence is golden.
In his 33rd season as an NFL coach, Belichick has developed into a tactical mastermind and motivator. He’s so determined to win and find every possible advantage for his team that he actually thought taping the New York Jets was a good idea. If you’re going to get fined for illegally videotaping a team, at least get caught taping a team that might be a challenge for you. Although he has the whole picture in mind, he and his team work on one thing at a time to make sure that each thing gets the attention it needs.
It’s no accident that Belichick is going for his fourth Super Bowl since 2002. Although he’s quite the control freak, he allows those who have proven they can play in his complex system a little more freedom. He’s a veteran coach, and his mantra, “the game is won or lost long before Sunday,” echoes off the locker room walls, throughout the stadium and constantly in the ears of his team.
He’s the mastermind of preparation and lays everything out for his team step by step. Every player understands what he’s supposed to do individually and collectively and is inevitably delegated the responsibility of performing his role to the best of his ability. Belichick is respected because he sticks up for his team. This has resulted in the transformation of inappropriate behavior into mature game play from players like Randy Moss. When things go well for the Patriots, Belichick doesn’t rub the success in people’s faces. When things go badly, he steps up and assesses the situation in front of everyone.

His time as the Cleveland Brown’s head coach is considered by many a failure, but realistically, the team’s downfall was inevitable between a crumbling team and managerial staff. The only thing Belichick can be held accountable for is the fact that he didn’t jump to anyone’s commands to make things better. What good is a band-aid solution when your base is destroyed?
Belichick’s experience in different coaching roles has given him a good understanding of the core essentials a team needs. He also learned a lot under coach Bill Parcells, as did six other current NFL coaches, including Tom Coughlin. He knows that big names aren’t everything they’re cracked up to be. Just because someone’s “good” doesn’t mean your team needs him. You need to fill in the cracks and find players who will truly help the team. The confidence he’s had in players, whether they’re big names or not, has paid off and he’s assembled the best NFL team in history.

New England Patriots, the team has won three Super Bowl titles, three conference titles, five division titles; they’ve had 12 playoff wins and hold a plethora of records. Every game plan is different, tailored to their game day needs. Each play is devised for the game at hand. Everything Belichick does is different. One year he kept four quarterbacks instead of three. The fourth was Tom Brady.
